FBA Science
Since 1929, we have been developing, delivering and disseminating targeted freshwater science to enable better and faster action to address risks and knowledge gaps affecting freshwater habitats and species.
Our freshwater science work is underpinned by a collaborative and networked approach. We prioritise and target issues affecting freshwater habitats and species where we can drive impact, meet the needs of stakeholders and generate multiple outcomes and benefits.
Our collaborative science network includes:
In-house scientists and Head of Science
World class research fellows
Science partners in the academic, third and private sectors
Our network of citizen scientists
FBA’s Head of Science, Louise Lavictoire, is responsible for the development and delivery of our ‘Science Plan’. The plan contains work packages (with actions and targets) to deliver and track the progress of our science priorities.
FBA has three freshwater science priorities (2022-2024)
1. Species Recovery Research & Conservation Action
2. Citizen Science
3. Collaborations with academic institutions, federations and partners organisations
Science and the FBA Fellowship
Fellows of the FBA are elected in recognition of their scientific excellence in freshwater ecology and/or their high-level contribution to the understanding and management of freshwater ecosystems.
38 of the finest biologists and ecologists in the UK and Europe play an important role in enabling the development of FBA’s science priorities and projects through;
Collaborative working
Shaping new research opportunities
Improving Diversity in the sector
Supporting Early Career Researchers
Recruiting new fellows to address knowledge / skills gaps
