Trustee vacancies at the Freshwater Biological Association

2 December, 2024

Do you have an interest in water quality and freshwater? Would you be interested in helping support an environmental charity?

If you answered yes to either question, we’d love to hear from you! FBA is hoping to appoint at least two new trustees from a variety of backgrounds, such as, environmental and freshwater science, finance, IT and legal.

We are particularly keen to attract new board members from the Lake District and North West England, who are familiar with our work, perhaps as one of our citizen scientists, a partner organisation or academic institution.

We are striving to strengthen the diversity of our board and would welcome approaches from interested parties with a wide range of backgrounds, experience and stages in their careers / life.

About FBA

Our staff, board and fellows are vibrant, diverse and passionate about playing their part to better understand and tackle the impacts of the biodiversity crisis and climate emergency on freshwater ecosystems. For example, we are delivering and planning a portfolio of ambitious, ground-breaking and innovative species recovery and community science programmes.

Towards the centenary of FBA

As we move towards our centenary in 2029, FBA is going through period of growth in terms of our profile, programmes and impact. This is being driven by the strategic priorities and goals in our growth plan. Despite the many uncertainties and challenges facing charities, our operational finances and reserves are in a resilient position.

Trustee responsibilities

Currently, there are three board meetings per year (x1 face-to-face and x2 online). Board members are also encouraged to proactively support FBA through the promotion of our mission and by participating in working groups and attending events.
