George Heritage
George is a fluvial geomorphologist having completed his undergraduate studies and PhD at the University of East Anglia.
George went on to hold research and lecturing posts at UEA, the University of the Witwatersrand, Newcastle and Salford before leaving academia to become a consultant at JBA and AECOM. He recently founded his own company (Dynamic Rivers) and now scopes, designs and delivers river and floodplain restoration and naturalisation schemes across the UK.
George is passionate about moving our rivers towards a more natural dynamic state where erosion, deposition and all associated flow and sediment transport processes are allowed to function as naturally as possible. He has been responsible for the design and delivery of a number of innovative large-scale projects in the Lake District, the Midlands and East Anglia.
He is also keen to share best practice and regularly publishes in his field including the recent ‘A Field Guide to British Rivers’. George runs field based courses, including for the FBA, linked to practical river restoration and the geomorphological and ecological benefits of such works.
