Pearl Mussel Officer
Ben is the Pearl Mussel Officer for the LIFE R4ever Kent project
Based at FBA’s Species recovery Centre, Ben’s role is to manage the freshwater pearl mussel rearing systems in order to ensure the success of pearl mussel breeding and the wider Freshwater Pearl Mussel Ark Project, including LIFE R4ever Kent. Ben’s key responsibilities include maintaining the rearing systems, monitoring and evaluating the ecological requirements of the mussels and the environmental conditions required for successful breeding, and tailoring rearing conditions to specific developmental stages of juvenile mussels.
