Sophie Cowling
Senior Scientist
Focusing on building a community of practice with partners, Sophie aims to enhance the scientific impact of participatory projects by improving data integration and supporting conservation policy through citizen science.
She has an academic background in plant science, with a focus on the physiological function and genomic basis of traits that provide plants with climate resilience. She has applied her expertise across diverse topics within different ecosystems, including crop sustainability, water chemistry, grassland biodiversity, soil carbon sequestration, and urban afforestation.
Sophie is also experienced in citizen science, having developed a global collection of salt-tolerant crop wild relatives with Adventure Scientists and led ecosystem service monitoring for Tiny Forests with Earthwatch Europe.
