Anne Robertson
Anne is a freshwater community ecologist focusing on the ecology of meiofaunal sized aquatic fauna and in sub-surface ecology (hyporheic zones and groundwaters).
She is interested in discovering the main drivers of hyporheic zone and groundwater community assembly and her group has investigated the impact of large scale (e.g. past glaciations, geology) and smaller scale (e.g. carbon & nutrients) factors on assemblage distributions in both natural and artificial systems. Anne also works to elucidate the interactions between sub-surface aquatic food webs and disturbances such as flooding and pollutants including pharmaceuticals and microplastics.
Anne is a professor at the University of Roehampton where she is an advocate of the value of interdisciplinary research to approach some of the more intractable questions facing freshwater environments. For example, she collaborates with a team of lawyers, economists, anthropologists, philosophers and geomorphologists to explore whether granting legal personality to rivers could be a fruitful avenue in river management.
Anne is a past member of the FBA Council and was Chief Editor of Fundamental & Applied Limnology from 2011-2019.
